BDJ Rendezvous: Filipina,Forward!

It’s been a week since BDJ Rendezvous Filipina,Forward! and it’s amazing how this event gives us information and WOW!, I think my brain is on overload for all theinformation.I am learning so much and thoroughly enjoying each presentation. The BDJ Team as well as Mr.Carlo Ople,Ms. Knox Balbastro and Ms. Mae Ilagan was amazing, nice number of people,Glad I came

Our host for the day was DJ Nova G.I just love her, she’s very simple and very smart.she started the event with a game and raffle and we just all so exited.

The 1st speaker is an Inspired Filipina Blogger promoting Fashionalsm.Advertising super creative at BBDO Guerero, scout for Philippine branded inspiration and a product of OFW Parents. Ms. Knox Balbastro

I was really impressed with how she supports Filipino made items such as made by embroiderers of our local provinces.her idea is to help the country,to love it’s fashion and promoting the country by wearing filipino inspired fashion.she collaborated with her friends and started the Postura Project – a 30 Day challenge. I was amazed with the effort and how they promote wearing filipino brands and one of the successful filipino made items are Team Manila which i personally love.i have some of their items such as Jose rizal Bag and Shirts. They have 10 stores nationwide.Even our kababayans in abroad buys Filipino brands for pasalubong for their friends and family.

The Postura gang from the site http://www.musamanila.blogspot.com

The 2nd speaker is from TV5. Mr.Carlo Ople.for that day, akala ko very simple lang ang defenition ko when talking about social media but malawak pala talaga ito.and i am very fortunate to know about this things.in his talk he also shared topics with the case of Senator Sotto’s plagiarism issue. The Anti-epal issue and Christopher Lao’s cyber bullying issues.he also shared what happened with this guy who’s bullying the MMDA,he explains how internet affects and connect with other people and how powerful it is to destroy you.that’s why the goverment is going to implement the Cyber Crime Law.but at the end of day, we also have to be very responsible with our doings.sabi nga ng kapuso – Think before you click!

The Last speaker is a Managing Editor of When in Manila,Ms Mae Ilagan.she begun taking photos of all the food trips she go.and that’s when she started creating a travel/food blog together with his friend Frank.

Just looking with their photos makes me envy and for that moment i was blown away of how beautiful our country is.the photos which she shared to us were breath taking and right away as she was ending her topic,i told her how she inspire me to do what she does, living her life to the fullest.appreciating the little things and the compassion she has.She has a great sence of humor and just everything she is, its so amazing and that’s why i like her so much!

Ms Mae gave out gateway gift certificates.Thank you Ms. Mae;)

The day lasted full of memories and learning is always a great experience.i get to see friends and meet new ones.looking forward to other events!

Self-Defence Day learning at the BDJ Passion Series Stand up,Defend! at the Crossfit Manila Philippine Army Gymnasium happend last August 26,2012.

I must say it was an amazing day and one of my favorite passion series this year.as a woman its an advantage that you have to know how to defend yourself in a situation like kidnappings and hold-ups and being part of this passion series is a great opportunity to learn techniques from the experts and the Best of all: it’s completely free! Thanks to BDJ!

We were welcomed by the friendly Instructors Mr. Dindo De Jesus – country Director and Chief Instructor of IKMFP and Ms. Kitin Flores – Assistant Instructor for women and Kids Krav Maga

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a non-competitive martial art and eclectic self-defense system developed in Israel that involves striking techniques, wrestling and grappling. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and extremely efficient, brutal counter-attacks.It was derived from street-fighting skills developed by Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler, as a means of defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava.in the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his immigration to Israel, he began to provide lessons on combat training to what was to become the IDF, who went on to develop the system that became known as Krav Maga. It has since been refined for civilian, police and military applications.Krav Maga is used by Israeli Defense Forces

The name in Hebrew means “hand-to-hand combat”. Krav meaning “combat” and Maga meaning “contact”.

International Krav Maga Federation of the Philippines teach us about:

  1. Self defence againts shoulder bag snatching
  2. defence againts knife threat-hold up situation
  3. defence againts kidnapping
  4. defence againts hand gun threat-hold up situation

First Up! Stretching

After our Instrutors explaining every details and seen their re-enactment,we eventually tried it!

  • Self defence againts shoulder bag snatching

  • defence againts kidnapping

  • defence againts hand gun or knife threat -hold up situation

and now its our turn to try.during this re-enactment,we were guided by the instructors to see if we did it the right way.

I enjoy learning new stuff including Krav maga But mainly, there are so much to learn each day.the most important whether your in the situation or you might encounter pickpockets and thieves, the best advice i can give is  Do not argue, but give whatever they want, The rule is: Do what they say, hand it over, and get away.If they want your money or belongings, let them have it.but with krav maga they teach us how to fight back and defend ourselves.

Many Thanks to the Krav Maga Instructors

and by the end of our stay we felt like part of their family
