Ruth Riley Tops as One of the Coaches on WNBA & JrNBA Philippines


This was the first time I cover an event with basketball and I realize it is with NBA organizers who gives a training especially to the youth on every country who would want basketball as one of their sports in their land.  Ruth Riley is one of the coaches that I admired the most because of her enthusiasm and having to maintain a balanced life with her school activities and being one of the top in their university.

This time the program was so intense and was more better in every year that has come . She talks about being nutritionally , physically and mentally ready for every kind of endeavors you have specially on basketball . She has been consistently doing his job at her best and will try to convey and share it to every youth that she will be talking with and shared as a mentor and coach. She’s just giving back what she has achieved and received as an individual who have found her passion in her chosen career.


Ruth Riley , whose full name is Ruth Ellen Riley who was born on August 28, 1979 in Ransom, Kansas USA ,was  already 6 feet when she was 12 years old and her jersey number 25 was retired

by her alma mater North Miami High School.  She graduated as Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Psychology . She was at

Miami Sol (2001-2002); Detroit Shock (2003-2006); San Antonio Silver Stars (2007-2011); Chicago Sky (2012); Atlanta Dream (2013-2014) . With a  Forward/Center as position,

height of  6’5” , weighing 198 lbs. , she has all the capacity to be as her best and was very effective as player and student on her Alma Matter.

She was drafted 5th overall by the Miami Sol in the 2001 WNBA Draft ,  picked first in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal Draft by the Detroit Shock, Was an  Olympic gold medalist year 2004 , a Two-time WNBA Champion (Detroit, 2003, 2006) , was named WNBA Finals MVP in ‘03 , ·  WNBA All-Star 2005,  NCAA Champion and Finals MVP last 2001 and  Served as the vice president of the WNBA Players’ Union .
