The ABCs of Parenting

Parenting and Relationship Consultant Maribel Dionisio with Atty. Tabayoyong, a parent participant in one of “The ABCs of Parenting” school talk
The parents of preschool up to Grade 4 students at Marist School in Marikina.

One of the measures of parenting success is the achievements of the children upon entering adulthood. Raising a child is a very challenging role but seeing them grow into a good and responsible individuals makes parenting very rewarding.

“Raising a family is not as easy as ABC, especially at the child’s formative years from ages 1 to 12. You have to focus on forming your child’s character while balancing work and family life,” said parenting and relationship consultant Maribel Dionisio.

Another challenge to address is starting a family. Most couples may feel confident that they are emotionally and mentally prepared for family life, but many would be doubtful about their financial capability to do so.

“A well-planned financial goal is also crucial in the early stages of starting a family,” said Dionisio. “For parents, especially those who are planning to have 2 or more kids, it is important that they start planning for their kids’ college education as early as when their child starts to walk,” Dionisio continues.

There is no exact science on how to be a good parent, but getting some advice would be very helpful in parenting.  With this goal in mind, Dionisio created The ABCs of Parenting.

The ABCs of Parenting aims to impart important parenting knowledge to new and even experienced couples. The lectures will discuss the following tips: A for attention-giving; B for building self-worth; C for communicating; D for disciplining with love; E for enhancing the relationship; and F for financial planning.
Planning your family’s activities well and knowing your financial responsibility can contribute a lot to a healthy and rewarding family life. As you raise your children, building a sustainable financial fund will become a challenge especially when it comes to preparing for their future education.

With the extended years in basic education and the rising cost of tuition fees, there is no better way to prepare for our children’s college education than getting a good education plan from a trustworthy partner.

Good thing there are insurance companies with education products to help address the education needs of Filipino families, like Philam Life, who recently introduced a new education product called Future Scholar.

Future Scholar is an investment and life insurance plan that provides long-term growth potential and guaranteed education benefits and access to expertly-managed funds which gives long-term growth potential.  Should the payor pass away or suffer total and permanent disability, the plan will still continue as future premiums will be waived. With the optional term insurance for the payor, an additional lump-sum amount will be given to the family to help increase the education fund. Customers can choose to pay in as short as 5 years or pay regularly until the child reaches age 17.
Philam Life remains a trusted partner of parents in ensuring the continued education of their children. It has delivered timely payouts of over PHP10 billion in education benefits for the past 10 years, and over PHP131 billion in insurance benefits for the past six decades.  For school year 2016-2017 alone, over 100,000 young scholars received their education payouts. This is a testament to the company’s ability to fulfill its promise to help parents give their children a good education year after year.
The ABCs of Parenting School Tour is a partnership between Philam Life and Maribel Dionisio.

A domino effect is defined as a cumulative outcome that is produced when a single event initiates a succession of similar events. Dominos Pizza Philippines has stayed true to this meaning, and yet has added so much more. The countrys pizza delivery expert has demonstrated that the simple act of receiving a delicious box of Dominos pizza creates an outward (and contagious) ripple of joy, delight, and cheerfulness. Indeed, it is enough to make you momentarily forget about the weariness and challenges of the day, and instead focus on love at first bite  thats the #DominosEffect !
As of last count, almost 1 million people have seen the #DominosEffect on full display, when a viral of a truly unique initiative exploded on social media.

In case you havent seen the video, heres the link:

When a company shows that it understands and empathizes with the grief associated with Metro Manila traffic, and does an amazing gesture in order to put smiles on peoples faces, then it is no wonder that the #DominosEffect video has taken the Internet by storm.
According to the company, they are delivering delight, one pizza at a time. While theres no doubt that Dominos Pizza will surely translate into delight, it is the message to share and spread this #DominosEffect that really resonates and deserves to be passed on. The world can certainly use more smiles, joy, and laughter nowadays.

Christmas Magic and Merriment at Marriott Hotel Manila

Smiles, Christmas carols, gift giving and a spread of feasts and treats were the highlights at the recently-held Christmas tree lighting at Marriott Hotel Manila.

Photo 2.1-.2.2: The life-size ginger bread train is parked at the hotel lobby and is loaded with all sorts of decadent holiday treats!

Magical Christmas Tree with Fairies Not to be missed is the 26-foot Christmas tree at the hotel lobby. Its gold ornaments are enhanced by beautiful fairy dolls that seem to spread pixie dust to those who wish for great success or luck. As more and more people came to admire the tree and hold the fairy dolls, a lady clad in glistening attire surprised the guests. Tessa Prieto-Valdez, the ever-gracious host, continued the Christmas cheer and introduced General Manager Bruce Winton who welcomed the guests and briefly discussed Marriott’s holiday offerings.
Magical Feast and Treats

Marian Rivera-Dantes waves the magic wand with glee to light the Christmas tree in the lobby of Marriott Manila as General Manager, Bruce Winton watches with astonishment.

While everyone indulged on savories and sweets created by Executive Chef Meik Brammer and his kitchen team, guests admired the graceful performance of little ballerina, Sage Espiritu. After a few twists and turns, she handed the magic wand to Marian Rivera-Dantes. And with one swing from of the wand, it’s as if magic was spread at the hotel’s lobby—the splendid Christmas tree was lit and left everyone in awe, Himig Roseña choral serenaded the guests with delightful Christmas carols, Santa Claus and his fairy friends came down the elegant staircase and shared presents from his red sack, and the gingerbread man and the snowman mascots hugged kids and adults alike!
Magic of Giving

Christmas is a time for giving. Also present during the celebration were the students and administrators of the Philippine School for the Deaf, Marriott Hotel Manila’s beneficiary. This year, the hotel will help raise funds to jumpstart a construction of additional dormitories to accommodate more indigent students. Every purchase of Rio, the Unicorn, will aid in this advocacy. The limited edition stuffed toy is available at the life-size gingerbread train at the hotel lobby for only P500.
It was just the beginning of magical cheers for the holidays at Marriott Hotel Manila. For more information on Marriott’s Christmas offers please call 988 9999 or visit http://www.manilamarriott.com.

Colgate-Palmolive Philippines celebrates 90 years of keeping Filipinos smiling

Colgate-Palmolive Philippines celebrates 90 years of operations in the country, providing generations of Filipinos with quality brands for oral care, personal care and home care such as Colgate, Palmolive, Tender Care, Gard, Axion and Ajax.
The Palmolive Company Philippines was established in 1926 with an office in the Binondo district of Manila with just five employees. Products sold during those days included Pompeia cosmetics, Octagon laundry powder and Crystal White laundry bar.

It merged with Peet Brothers the following year and with Colgate Company in 1928. Popular products such as Colgate Ribbon dental cream and Cashmere Bouquet toiletries were added to the product range along with Palmolive soaps, pushing accelerated growth for the next few years. Products at that time were delivered to stores by carabao or horse-drawn carts.

In 1941, during World War II, invading soldiers sealed the office and looted the warehouse. Loyal employees were instructed by their imprisoned manager to preserve company records. Two employees managed to enter the office but couldn’t escape with the ledgers.

They ended up manually copying all entries, word for word, for over a week. With records intact, the company was able to collect all receivables from insurance after the war and resume business.

Soon after, Ajax powder cleanser was introduced to the market and, in 1949, the company was incorporated as Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, Inc.

While the company may have begun by importing products from the US, growing demand for its brands prompted it to inaugurate a manufacturing plant in Makati in 1951 and to establish a provincial warehouse in Cebu in 1959.

Marketing Highlights:

Colgate-Palmolive Philippines was the first company to advertise in color in 1966 when local TV advertising switched from black-and-white to color.

The Palmolive Naturals soap “I can feel it” tagline from the 1987 TV commercial, which featured Alice Dixson and her iconic shoulder shrug choreography, was adopted globally in 1991 and eventually won a Pilak Award in 2002, representing the best Philippine ads of the last 50 years.

In 2007, Colgate’s nationwide Super Mega Brushing campaign earned it a Guinness World Record for most number of children brushing their teeth at the same time. A total of 41,000 students participated in Manila, Cebu and Davao.

The Palmolive Naturals “Bounce” music video, which featured three of the country’s biggest stars: Julia Barretto, Janella Salvador and Liza Soberano, was hailed as one of the top 10 performing ads on YouTube in 2015.

Community Engagement:

One of the core values of the company is caring for the communities where it is present.  The Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program has been supporting oral health education across the country through free dental screenings and tooth-brushing drills, distribution of oral care kits, and integrating oral health education materials with Kinder and 1st Grade school curricula. This is made possible by the company’s partnership with the Department of Education for nearly 2 decades.

Through its collaboration with the Philippine Association of Dental Colleges since 2001, the company has sponsored various symposia on dental health as well as provided more than 200 scholarship grants to dentistry students nationwide.

Colgate has also been an exclusive partner of the Philippine Dental Association’s annual Kabarangay sa Dental Health Program, raising oral health awareness all over the country through free dental check-ups and product sampling.

As part of its 90th year activities, Colgate-Palmolive collaborated with Puregold to support Operation Smile Philippines, an NGO focused on providing free surgeries to indigent children afflicted with cleft lips/palates; as well as Robinsons Supermarket to help raise funds for World Vision Philippines, an NGO that provides assistance to impoverished children.

Colgate continues to be the Oral Care brand most recommended by Dentists* and Palmolive remains to be the #1 Personal Care brand, in the Philippines**.
