ICDC 2017 FUSION OF THE ARTS:  GOLDILOCK’S Annual Decorating Challenge 

Since 2006, GOLDILOCKS has been staging its annual ICDC. This is to give college students a venue to showcase their creativity and talents. Majority of baking industry events focus on professional demos and or seminars. This year countless schools from all over the Philippines submitted entries I hopes of being one of the 10 finalists. 

This years 11th installment of its annual intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge (ICDC). Students from across the nation compete head to head with their on the spot cake creations. For each teams to produce their creations beautifully, teams will be given a five hours to decorate three cakes with corresponding themes. Invitations are sent out to aech schools all over the Philippines with a Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) (HRA) or Culinary Arts curriculum. These schools are then narrowed down to a list of qualifiers representing the very best of their discipline. 

This will give them a chance to win a baking showcase worth a quarter million pesos for their school, as well as P20,000 worth of Goldilocks gift certificates for the team itself.

As seen in the past, this highly innovative competition not only requires the technical know how of cake decorating, but also the creativity, originality and the imagination needed to produce marvelous and eye catching cake designs. The ICDC will be judge by some of the best and brightest icons in the baking and design industry to select the winning team.

Activities last February 18,2017 at Tinoma Activity center

Attendees are treated to a range of activities, including a Cake Decorating Workshop, a DYC decorate your cake area for children, Goldilocks Premium Decorated Cakes on display, an Avoset Co-Presenter Booth and a Wall Display of past ICDC entries. 

Prior to the competition, the teams attended workshops hosted by experts in the field of fashion design, sculpture and visuals arts. We made sure to equip our competing cake decorators with different perspectives involving different fields of creativity, Caluya pointed out. We want to highlight the fact that the intricate and highly expressive art of cake decoration can also be a platform for one’s passion and individual expression much like any form of art, she further emphasized. 

Nearly 100 entries were pre-judged to find the top ten qualifying teams for 2017. After a comprehensive deliberation, Technological University of the Philippines, Asian College-Quezon City, Pangasinan State University, Lyceum University-Laguna, St. Anne College of Lucena, Calayan Educational Foundation Inc, West Visayas State University, University of Cebu, Western Institute of Technology-IloIlo, and Gabriel Taborin College of Davao emerged as the finalists.

And the Winners are:

Wedding Cake: Western Institute University of IloIlo

Festive Cake: St. Anne College of Lucena

Travel Cake: St. Anne College of Lucena

Over all Winners: St. Anne College of Lucena
