Cater to your sweet tooth with these Easy, Microwavable Desserts

As Filipinos, most of us are born with a hefty palate. Food is a big part of our culture, and we all know how to appreciate a good feast. However, not all of us are blessed with the skill to be masters in the kitchen. The result? We often resort to buying takeout meals or ordering from trusty fast food chains.

Still, nothing beats homemade food, especially when it comes to desserts. The problem is that when we think of sweets, we always have this misconception that we need to slave hours in front of an oven just to make them.

But did you know that anyone can easily whip their own batch of sweets with just a bit of ingenuity and creativity?  And no, you don’t even need to have an oven to make your own comfort food. Check out the desserts below and impress your loved ones with these easy to make recipes for times when your hunger pangs call for something fast and sweet.

Here’s a merienda both kids and adults will love: for your very own French toast, whisk milk, egg, vanilla, and cinammon together in a bowl and soak slices of bread in the mixture. Using a microwavable plate, heat the slices on high setting for one minute. Garnish it with syrup for extra flair.

Need a quick and healthy dessert minus the elaborate prep? Do your own Sabang Saging in a minute with your microwave oven. Take two raw bananas and prick them with a fork before washing and wrapping them with paper napkins. Pop them in the microwave and cook for a minute or until the sides turn soft.

Midea’s microwave oven can help you create these desserts minus the hassle of a long cooking time. Designed to promote healthy cooking, it retains nutrients in food and lets you cook in seconds.

Worried that you might rack up on electricity bills while whipping up your own sweets? The microwave has the piso meal guarantee, which means you pay a peso for every three minutes of cooking. It’s the perfect addition to your kitchen especially when cravings are high but time is limited. Know more about Midea by checking their website http://midea.com.ph and following their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MideaPhilippines.

RGC Group more than ready for CARS Program and PUV Modernization

At the First Philippine Auto Parts Expo, which was recently held at the Philippine Trade Training Center, local automotive parts manufacturers gathered to showcase their products and capabilities to boost the production in their industry. Several modernized jeepney prototypes were also featured in the event, which made manufacturers more enthusiastic about the future of their business. With the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program and PUV Modernization on its way, the automotive parts manufacturing industry in the Philippines is expected to gain more traction in its production in the years to come.

The Robert G. Cheng (RGC) Group of Companies, the company behind Roberts Automotive and Industrial Parts Manufacturing Corporation (Robert AIPMC) and the country’s leading foam manufacturer, Uratex, was one of the exhibitors for the event. “Presently we are already supplying parts for Mitsubishi and Toyota, and now with the Modernization Program, we can see that we could provide more for the automotive industry”, RGC Group Executive Vice President, Mr. Eddie Gallor expressed his excitement. “We are also glad that we now have the help of the government in boosting our local manufacturing industry.”

On top of that, RGC Group will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary next year and Mr. Eddie Gallor has been with the company since day one. “We expect to be get very busy once these programs are on full effect, and that is another thing to celebrate next year”, Gallor said. “We have worked hard these past decades in keeping up with the times by continuously investing on technologies that improve the quality of our products. This gave us the accreditation for the CARS Program and the capacity to do more. We are still operating only at a fraction of the utilization of our investments, and we expect that in the years to come, we could run at our full potential.”

“We also target to develop further our textile company, so that we could add more parts that are supplied locally,” Gallor adds. He explained that the demand for cars has been there, but most units come from overseas. “If automotive production is done here with parts supplied by local manufacturers, it will be a great boost for the manufacturing industry, which is also good for the economy,” Gallor explains. “This also means that we could provide more job opportunities for more Filipinos.”

“If the CARS and PUV Modernization Programs continues to progress as the years pass, we are more than ready to meet the demands”, Gallor emphasizes. “I have been in the industry for more than 40 years and we have been prepared many years back. We are ready to be more productive when needed. With all the new equipment and technologies we have invested on these past years, I am sure that we can do so much more.”

Uratex promotes the value of sharing moments together

Filipinos enjoy cherishing the times we share with family, friends, and loved ones especially during the holiday season. For the majority, the best memories are created inside the bedroom where family members bond or catch up with each other before they call it a day.

Giving salute to the importance of family traditions, Uratex, who is celebrating 50 years this 2018 unveiled a Christmas-themed video to celebrate family memories made inside the bedroom, their common area of solitude, and the bed, a central and key witness to that celebration.

The video starts by showing a young man longing for the love and company of their mother, supposedly an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). He has not seen her as she has not come home for the past three years working overseas. Not a day passes that the young man misses his mother, where he shared many fun and memorable moments with her while at his bedroom during his childhood. And now that Christmas is near, the longing is felt more than ever.

Meanwhile, the young man’s elder brother also does his best to overcome his yearning for their mother’s presence by focusing all his strength on his job. He silently cares for his brother’s needs and sees to it that his younger brother continues to strive to be the best individual that he can be. But like his younger brother, he misses his mother as well.

Alas, their wish was granted on Christmas Day when, as they try to celebrate Christmas just like in the previous years without their mother, they were pleasantly surprised with her arrival. The joy in the younger brother’s eyes was evident with their mother’s presence in a special time such as Christmas, finally, as one family.

For the elder brother, the arrival of their mother was the perfect time to tell her that he is now ready to take on the responsibility of caring for the family’s needs. With their mother’s long-awaited homecoming, it will be the perfect opportunity to create new memories again together—as one family.

Uratex Philippines, the undisputed leader in the foam manufacturing industry believes that family love and comfort are always at the forefront in the tradition of selfless care and service to the Filipinos. Uratex believes that family love, caring and looking out for the welfare and greater comfort of each other is vital.  Each Uratex bed provides ultimate comfort to promote a healthful and relaxed sleep night after night. This helps invigorate the body so it will remain fit and fully charged to make each family member ready to face life’s daily challenges.

For Uratex founders Robert and Natividad Y. Cheng, the products that they’ve developed over the past five decades have been uncompromising when it comes to celebrating the beauty of love and life. Each mattress that rolls out of the company’s manufacturing facilities is the result of the Chengs’ vision to share comfort with every Filipino. With constant innovation, Uratex products remain synonymous to rest and relaxation, love and comfort.

After their mother’s arrival, what special Yuletide celebration awaits the two sons? Fisherman’s Friend: Your go-to throat remedy this holiday season

Fisherman’s Friend: Your go-to throat remedy this holiday season

ffo2 (1)

The ‘Ber’ months are officially here! Together with the flood of Christmas carols and holiday shopping that will start to pick up pace around us, there’s another thing we Filipinos should prepare for: the cold and flu season.

According to the DOH, the cold season brings with it dangers of having a runny nose, fever, cough, and sore throat. These symptoms, which affect both young and old, are brought by the dropping of temperature which peaks during the holiday season.

All Filipinos love a good celebration, so of course, these symptoms should be watched out for– better yet, prevented–before they even dampen our holiday spirits. Surely, the last thing you want to have during the party season is a throat discomfort that can pull the stops on your cheery vibe.

Preparedness is key

This holiday season, make sure to take steps to avoid common illnesses that can ruin it. One way to do it is to prevent over-exposure to cold, which means it’s time to break out and dust off your favorite sweaters and coats. It’s also important to avoid encounters where you can pick up viruses, like crowded spaces and public areas. Use a face mask to keep yourself safe in the event that people sneeze and cough, too.

In the event that you do feel the onset of a throat discomfort, you should have a go-to source of relief to help. A good option is Fisherman’s Friend, the tried and tested throat lozenges which can provide instant relief to throat troubles.

You’ve got a friend in Fisherman’s Friend

Nowadays, these lozenges are considered a must-have for everyone, especially those who use their voices as capital for their professions. This holiday season, a pack (or two) of these little throat miracles can help save you from pesky throat discomforts.

In addition to providing relief, Fisherman’s Friend can also be used as breath fresheners as well.

This holiday season, arm yourself with a throat relief partner. Fisherman’s Friend is available in leading drugstores, convenient stores and supermarket for as low as Php 44.75. You can also check their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/FishermansFriendPH.

A day in the life of Queen P

Binibini BTS 03

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is as famous for being an all-around beauty queen as she is for being a workaholic celebrity. She wrestles with a full calendar on most days even after her reign from the most prestigious beauty pageant.

“I usually go to work in the morning. And I work all day — doing photo shoots and shooting for the movie. That’s what’s keeping me busy,” said Wurtzbach in an interview. “I am lucky because I get to go home by dinner time or just after dinner. So, I haven’t been up really late so far. But then that’s also good because it gives me some time to spend with my family here at home.”

The Filipino-German beauty said that she spends time with her niece Lara after a tiring day.

“I come home and then I gather my thoughts again. I spend time with my niece Lara. Cuddling moments muna kami. We will eat together. If she is still awake, we play together. If I have a day off, I go swimming. I can’t really swim but I love the feeling of being in the water. I like to stretch like it’s a nice form of exercise. I also love cardio training, boxing,” she added.

Wurtzbach has started shooting her comeback movie entitled “The Revengers” with ace comedian Vice Ganda and Kapamilya heartthrob Daniel Padilla in the action-comedy film. It’s also her first time to join the Metro Manila Film Festival.

“It’s very good. We would get along a lot, pretty well. We joke around while waiting for our take. We have a good working relationship,” she said. “Right now I’m doing a dream role, a hero. I like it because it’s challenging. I trained for this. It’s difficult but I can do it.”

With her schedule, Wurtzbach said that she is still hopeful she could attend the finals of the 2017 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Las Vegas on Nov. 26.

“I’m planning it with Miss Universe right now. I hope my schedule will allow it. We have to do the promo for the movie but I think they will allow me even for five days lang just to attend and then come back,” she said.

Wurtzbach shared that with her busy schedule, she still enjoys simple activities such as reading and watching TV. “I bring reading materials with me to work. And I also bring Netflix with so that I can watch my favorite TV series while on my way to work or while I am waiting for my turn.”

Of the television series, Wurtzbach said: “I really love ‘Narcos’. I just finished Season 3. I’m sad because there is still no Season 4. So I’m moving on to a new series. I got suggestions from other people and they say maybe I should start with ‘Game of Thrones’ because I have actually not seen ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Vikings’ is also another suggestion. So I’ll choose. I’ll watch the pilot episodes of both shows and I’ll see which one I like.”

Social media and video games have also become part of Wurtzbach’s life.

“Right now here at home we have ‘Just Dance.’ I like it because it’s fun and it’s like exercise. I have on my phone ‘Mobile Legends’ and word games usually. I am a very good support for ‘Mobile Legends.’ I have a favorite character. People usually do not choose to be the support character but I like doing that because I am a key player in the game. I think I’m pretty good at that.”

Asked about who she plays with, the beauty queen said: “I play with strangers. My account actually has my face on it with the crown pa and it’s funny. And then my handle is Queen P. They don’t ask. They probably think I’m just a fan. I also spend for the characters also like I buy the new costumes. I am a little maarte with that. I also have online friends, but they don’t know who I am. Walang usap usap. We just play.”

Wurtzbach, indeed, is one of the most followed Filipino celebrities these days with five million followers on Instagram.

“For me it’s not 5M, it’s only five. I don’t try to think that there are five million people watching. You will get conscious of what you’re posting. You’ll get mixed reactions. When I post something it’s to share, and most of the time it’s really just for me.”

“I try to update it every day. If I’m really having a long day and tired, I just don’t go online just for the sake of updating. I don’t really force myself to smile in front of the camera and just to share something with other people. If I’m not feeling well or if I’m not in the mood, I’m not gonna post. So everything I post is like real, totoo. If I’m happy in my post I’m really happy. I’m not into show-face. So I do try to post everyday if I’m not tired,” she said.

With many things goingon in her life now, Wurtzbach also boosts her energy with – chocolates. By now people already know that the country’s third Miss Universe from the Philippines has a sweet tooth in real life.

“I have a sweet tooth but most of the time I eat in the house. It’s one of my guilty pleasures and a reward like if I did a good job or if I need a boost of energy – chocolate, chocolate, chocolate,” said Wurtzbach

But did you know that Wurtzbach was eating sweets even during the finals of 2015 Miss Universe while waiting for the question-and-answer portion of the pageant?

“During Miss Universe also, that’s what I did. When I’m feeling low, I eat sweets and them I’m up. During Miss Universe backstage, I was eating sweets because I won’t be able to answer the questions if I were hungry. There’s glow after you eat something. And you’re happy! The other girls don’t want to eat. I told them they will not look at your body anymore, they will listen to your answers.”

Wurtzbach revealed that she loves Goya products even if she has already tasted a lot of international brands.

“Goya chocolates are really good. I don’t understand why there’s doubt even if I have tasted many international brands of chocolates. Goya knows the taste of Filipinos when it comes to chocolates,” she said.

“It brings me back to my childhood days, it brings me back to my Binibini days. During Binibining Pilipinas, my favorite Goya product is Cookies and Cream. It’s really my favorite. At dawn I would even go to a nearby convenience store to buy Goya’s Cookies and Cream. Then I would go back to my room and eat the chocolates there.”

Wurtzbach’s love affair with Goya products started when she tasted the regular Goya Milk Chocolate. “When I first tasted it, I got the Goya Milk Chocolate the one with the nuts and Cookies and Cream. Before, I’ve always thought the dark chocolate is always bitter. I avoided dark chocolates. When I tasted Goya’s dark chocolate, it’s not bitter. And dark chocolate is really good for you. It’s the only chocolate approved by my gym trainer.”

Popular entertainment blogger Perez Hilton also loves Goya chocolates, said Wurtzbach. “I got a message from Perez Hilton and he told me that he wants to try Goya products. So we sent him Goya chocolates and he loved it. He invited me to hang out with him if I will visit LA in the future. My sister also brings with her Goya products to London where she is based.”

It’s not the marketing strategy or the name of the brand that would make her appreciate the product, according to Wurtzbach. “I’ve had a lot of choices. I don’t think it’s about the price tag. Not for me. What’s important is what will make you happy.”
